Interview 2010
We'd like to give a big thanks to Ryann Baker as well as Jackson himself for allowing us this amazing privilege. Once again, Jackson and his management have put time aside especially for us to make this happen and we couldn't be more appreciative! This time around, we asked the fantastic members at DailyRathbone for their questions. Enjoy and many thanks,

Brittany, Natatree, Viv & Janine
Actors and musicians go into their respective crafts for different reasons. Some are born with a passion for it, and then they become talented at it. Some are born with a talent, and then become passionate about it. And some are born with both. Which category do you think you would fall under with acting and your music? - Torn_Portfolio
I was born with a passion to entertain. I think I was always fairly talented at amusing people, but I was never a prodigy. I fall hard when I fall in love, and I fell in love with playing music and acting. It's all I ever wanted to do, but in the beginning, I just had the soul, no prodigy-type talent. The technical aspects I'm still developing and honing... I'm always in training, always practicing. It's about pursuing passion, I believe.
Though you're on the road so much, is there still a place that feels like home? Or are you the kind of person that can feel at home anywhere? - A_Suitcase
I feel at home with my friends and family. So, wherever they are is home. Whether it's a different hotel every night with the band on tour, I'm still staying with my brothers. When I go home to Texas, or visit my family anywhere in the world, I'm at home.
Through MTV's "When I was 17", we learned about your affinity for meat. What is your favourite meaty dish and where is the best place to get it? - Lilliephoenix
My dad's baby back ribs. I get it my first night back home every time I visit. Can't get the best cooking anywhere but home. Mom's Jambilaya? Killer.
Do you have any lucky charms or gifts that you keep with you at all times? - Ohhhophelia
I do, but they're mostly pretty personal items. Lucky charms would be my boots. My mom got me my first pair of real, not-from-Salvation-Army cowboy boots five years ago. They make me feel pretty lucky. I still wear them nearly every day. Had to get them resoled twice.
Do you have any scars and what is the best story behind one of them? - xo_popjunkie_xo
I have a few scars, all right. One by each eye, my chin, and my legs. One scar on my right knee is from an old Mexican sword my buddy had in the back of his pick-up truck... The other scar is from when I ran into a barbed-wire fence at night when sneaking out of my sumer camp cabin to get to the girls' side. I went the wrong way and didn't see the fence. Wrapped it with a bandana as a tourniquet.
What's the greatest thing he's been able to accomplish or give back by having a "voice" that people listen to? - ______thatshott
Raising awareness for the music and art of Spencer Bell is very important to me. Hearing people sing his songs, make music videos of his work, and are inspired by it, is simply beautiful. As Keith Richards says, every artist wants "He Passed It On" written on their gravestone. I know I've been inspired by Spencer and would love to inspire others to follow their own passions, or at least find one.
With all the places you have visited, is there one certain place that will always stay with you no matter what happens or where you go? - tamstwitter
There are moments that will always stay with me. The times I've messed up and had to learn the hard-way are the most vital, I find. The good things that have come into my life serve as milestones to my artistic pursuits. The present is another word for a gift, and I'm just thankful to receive one, no matter where I may be waking up, I'm waking up on top of the grass and not below it.
Are there any countries or places you haven't had the chance to go to yet with your filming and promotional work, and would really like to visit?
Literally, everywhere. I honestly can't think I could ever get enough traveling done in my lifetime, but I'm gonna try. There's too much beauty in the world, but it doesn't overwhelm me, it only entices me onward.
In the past few years you've managed to create quite a following of fans for yourself. There's an online community called 'dailyrathbone' that boasts over 900 active, devoted members. Is there a message you'd like to send to them?
That's amazing! Thank you! I don't know how to fully express it, but you have all of my respect and my love. It is because of fan's devotion and support, that I get to do what I love to do, and I can only thank you the best way I know how, to continually create art as diverse as possible and to hopefully grow together, as audience and artist, with the times. Thank you, so much!
If you had five minutes in a guitar store - or a guitar factory - what guitar would you select? And what guitar would you recommend for a new guitar player? - morvern
I always look for the weird acoustic instruments. Slide resonator guitars, or ukuleles, dulcimers, banjos... whatever looks like it has a song begging to be played. Whenever I'm stuck in rush-hour traffic in LA, I often will just pull off at the closest guitar store and spend an hour or two sampling everything I can to kill time. Music stores hold a sense of reverence with me. I started on an acoustic guitar, so I guess that would be my suggestion. It's important to learn the fundamentals of the rhythm guitar, but then again I come from the Keith Richards school of guitar. It depends who, what musician, you are into. See what they play and emulate that. I now play mainly classical for writing and fun, and then perform with a Gibson Les Paul.
What song is your ultimate guilty pleasure song? - sweetsouthbear
There is a definite satisfaction with listening to a lot of my own older music. My first recordings when I was eighteen and experimenting with different sounds and styles, they often get me smiling and reminiscing, but listening to your own music is like the guiltiest pleasure of all. I try not to often, but every so often you have to look through your old family photo album, right? See how you've grown and where you've been... Otherwise, "Dan Le Sac Vs. Scroobius Pip", son is called "Thou Shalt Always Kill".
Is there any correlation between the name of your guitar, Annabelle, and the character on Beautiful People? - xo_popjunkie_xo
Ha! No... but very, very astute question. I named her Annabelle because of her resonant, bell-like sound quality. Naming guitars just happens. It will maybe tell you when you first play it, or it's inspired by familiarity. Either way, it's pure fancy.
Is there an instrument you don't know how to play but you really want to learn? - Ohhhophelia
The violin. Hands down. I play a little, but I mostly make dying-cat-sounds when I play the violin, so I need a lot of practice. Or, the cello...
It's your last night on earth and you have one chance only to see a band/musician. Who is it and why? - bluewhitefire
If it was my last night on Earth, I would be playing music. I'd go out playing.
Can you tell us any details about your new project, "The Amazing Mr. Jones"? More about your character or your role as producer? - sensoria_t
I can't tell that much more, but it's a beautifully moving story. We still have to cast the female lead, until then we can't really move forward with the financing or anything else. We have to find that special leading lady.
You have a choice to play in a biopic as a politician, a porn star or a Nazi soldier. Which one do you choose and why? - ljubljanave
I think each would be interesting... for different merits. I hope to have a long enough career to do a little of each.
Do you think "Girlfriend" will have any impact on the rights and equality of special needs citizens? What do you think that impact might be? - iichristinll
Often time art is supposed to serve as a catalyst for active mass subjectivity. I believe in equal-rights for everyone, and I also believe that everyone is an artist. It was amazing to work with such an incredibly talented young actor like Evan Schneider. My main hope is that the world will get to see his talent and this film will be only the first in what I see as a long career from a talented artist who loves to act.
Are there any plans or whisperings of you reprising the role of Amanda/Adam on "Criminal Minds"? - xo_popjunkie_xo
I have heard whisperings... Maybe if the fans bombarded Criminal Minds with letters requesting... I don't know... I'm down for it.
What have been your top three favorite characters that you've portrayed so far? - rainybyday
Snippy from Senior Skip Day Adam/Amanda from Criminal Minds Jasper from the Twilight Series (on stage... Autolycus from The Winter's Tale)
In your opinion, what sort of character would be the most challenging for you to become?
The romantic leading man in a studio romantic comedy. I would love to do comedy and I consider myself a romantic, but I'd rather be the interesting auxiliary character who informs the story. I just like addressing broader concepts than falling in and out of love and/or lust in a film capacity. It's enough in real life. On screen I'd rather play men with a mission or a psychopath or anything as far from me as possible.

Thank ya'll for the interview, and especially for the love and support.
Love and respect,
Jackson
